Sane still in Guardiola’s plans after benching

Pep Guardiola has reassured Leroy Sane that he has a future at Manchester City despite failing to make the starting line-up in their opening two Premier League matches.

Sane was named the Premier League’s young player of the year in April, having scored 14 goals and provided 19 assists in all competitions as City won the English title and the League Cup.

However, the 22-year-old was left out of Germany’s squad for the World Cup, and has seen his City opportunities limited this season, appearing as a substitute in their league victories over Arsenal and Huddersfield.

Guardiola preferred to use Raheem Sterling in a left-sided forward role at the Emirates Stadium, and featured Benjamin Mendy as an attacking wing-back as Huddersfield were thrashed 6-1 last Sunday.

However, the City manager says Sane’s chances will come, and that he is not being pushed to the fringes of the squad.

“In the past two weeks in training, I’ve seen the Leroy that I know and we know. I am delighted about that,” Guardiola told reporters on Friday.

“You know about his performances in pre-season, he arrived late and now he is getting back to being like Leroy is.

“We have six excellent strikers and not all of them can play. He is not being left out because we are unhappy with his performance. We have to choose now Mendy is playing more wide. That is the reason why.

“He is ready with his physical condition. He doesn’t need much time to get in better condition, it is not about that.”

Guardiola hinted the frustration of being left out of the World Cup had caused Sane to lose focus when he returned to City duty in pre-season.

“I understand the disappointment of missing the World Cup – for young players it is an important issue,” he said.

“But in football, and sport and life, there is the next one and the next one. He came back, he was in the United States with us for pre-season and stayed there. He took a little bit more time to settle and now he is ready.

“It is not the case that when someone in this team is not playing that I’m not happy with them or they don’t deserve it.

“I have to choose and they have to be ready. We have played two games and the competition has just started.

“I have never complained about Leroy’s behaviour in the training sessions or matches. What he did last season was so important.”

BIG INJURIES

Guardiola, meanwhile, has called on the Premier League to loosen its rules on emergency signings outside the transfer window after his struggles to find goalkeeping cover in the past few days.

City lost Claudio Bravo on Monday to an Achilles tendon injury, leaving the club with no experienced back-up for Ederson, their first choice ‘keeper, after selling Joe Hart to Burnley and Angus Gunn to Southampton before the English transfer window closed on August 9.

Aro Muric, the Montenegro Under-21 international, has been recalled from a season’s loan at Dutch side NAC Breda to act as second choice, with youth graduate Daniel Grimshaw the other keeper in City’s squad.

Asked if the rules should be looked at, Guardiola said: “Yes. Not just for goalkeepers but for when there are big, big injuries to players.

“If we had not been allowed to bring back Aro, I don’t know what would have happened.

“But the rules are the rules. Maybe the federation can think about that when there are long, long injuries and it is still the period where the European window is open. Then maybe you could do it.

“Here it is closed, and it is good that the competition starts with the whole squad. But maybe we could think about that, especially when the injuries are five or six months.”

Hoedt adjusts to Premier League ‘madness’ after Van Dijk exit

Southampton’s Dutch defender Wesley Hoedt says it has been tough to adjust to the “madness” of the Premier League but after flirting with relegation last season is confident better times are ahead.

Hoedt moved to the Saints from Serie A club Lazio last August and the first situation he had to deal with was the drawn-out exit of compatriot Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool.

Van Dijk was close to leaving during the close-season but did not make the switch until January despite having put in a transfer request in August.

“I have to be honest, it was strange. The things that were said to me when I signed were different to the things that happened,” Hoedt told reporters.

“That is sometimes how it is. To me, they said he would be staying. Eventually he did stay but in a strange way. It was difficult but those are the kind of things that happen in football but also in life.”

Hoedt also had to adjust to the very different style of play in England.

“Italy is an amazing league with amazing players and high-level competition, but the Premier League is just something different. It is 90 minutes of madness, sometimes,” he said.

“I had to adapt to it. I think I started well in the beginning – the first three months I did well. Then I had a period in which I played not as good, and the team did the same. That was difficult.

“It’s the best league in the world, and now I know why… In Italy it was more tactical, more side-to-side. Here it is just 90 minutes of balls coming to you and teams having amazing players,” he added.

Southampton looked doomed to relegation until they replaced Mauricio Pellegrino with current manager Mark Hughes in March and Hoedt says that was also an individual turning point.

“After the changing of the manager I stood up I think and we fought for it… He (Hughes) was directly clear about the things he wanted and that was something we needed.

“He did really well, and I think also the players stepped up. Before that, we just didn’t show enough of our abilities and we were just not good enough in that moment.”

Hughes has brought in towering Danish international Jannik Vestergaard to add to his central defensive options and Hoedt feels he can also add more to his own game.

“I am still only 24 but I have lost the stamp of ‘young talent’ a long time ago in my opinion because I have played too many games for that,” he said.

Southampton, who drew at home to Burnley and lost at Everton in their opening two games, host Leicester City on Saturday.

Saints will wear a unique kit for the game with regular sponsors Virgin Media replacing their logo with disability charity, Scope.

It is to raise awareness of the charity’s ‘Disability Gamechanger’ campaign to help highlight and address the issues disabled people face across the UK.

OVERWHELMING ENCOMIUM ON MY BIRTHDAY–(6 minutes read).

OVERWHELMING ENCOMIUM ON MY BIRTHDAY–(6 minutes read).

It was a mixed feeling this morning with an overwhelming disinclination to avoid putting down a piece about the specialty of today to me but as time rolled by, I changed my mind, even though I struggle with my mood.

I thought and believed that a day like this is meant to be a day dedicated to deep reflection about the essence of life that boils down to the mileage that someone has covered with thought that has to do with questioning about what has been achieved in the course of time and what is left to be achieved in the process of time.

In the long run, as waves of encomium and congratulations accompanied with good wishes started pouring in, I started seeing reasons why I should celebrate myself and people around me on this special day.

Life becomes meaningful to the reasonable when a portion and a particular moment of our life is dedicated to reflections that will spur anyone into revelation of what we are created and purposed for.It is at the point of this reflection that is always sober that many of us get t a point whereby we are sprang into the realm of personal discovery which becomes possible when we allow ourselves to personal appraisal

Personal reflection demands personal appraisal that demands personal responsibility because everyone is the architect of his fortunes or misfortunes. This places a kind responsibility that will end up in creativity that might help us to understand what our existence is all about.

We are created to be self sufficient in asking questions about ourselves once in a while and the questioning must be personal and truthful in all aspects so that we will not end up becoming a victim of self-deceit that might attract self-destruction.

The shelf -life of every human on earth is measured by time and the beauty inherent in such shelf life is not defined by how long we live but it is determined by how impactful such moment of time are maximized in contributing to others in terms of sacrifice, selflessness and servitude.

It is what we have as a contribution in the process of time that will be remembered not the numbers of days that we spend on earth.

It is our influence and contributions that counts not the numbers of days we spent that counts.

These are some of the waves of reflections that overwhelmed my consciousness this morning and all I could do is to put it down in writing for future purposes as a form of documentation for posterity.

Today marked another important day in my life that I could not afford to shy away from celebrating it.

Even if I want to stay away from it, it is quite impossible because the waves of appreciation and congratulations from friends, families, colleagues and familiars are quite overwhelming.

Without any iota of doubt, I am a year older today and I am grateful to God Almighty for keeping me and my family alive to witness a glorious moment like this.

It has been God that has remained faithful in keeping me alive till this present moment.

I will not in anyway forget using this piece to celebrate my birthday sake and a mentor that I always remember his words of advice, prayers and encouragement. He has been a pillar in my dynasty and no one can deny his contributions to the life of many around in my lineage.

He is a father, a friend and an uncle that is passionate about everyone around him becoming successful.

He is Mr.S.A FADEYI FCE.

Moreover, I am also using this opportunity to appreciate everyone around who has contributed to how far I have gone in life.

My wife, my sister, my brothers, my daughters, my in-laws, my mum, colleagues, nieces, nephews friends from elementary schools to higher institutions especially friends and classmates from Ilesha Grammar School 1991/1996 SET.

It has been God and I pray that all of us will remain living and existing to celebrate in our old age.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME.

AD MULTO ANNOS!!!

DEO GRATIAS!

HURRAY!!!

I AM A YEAR OLDER TODAY!!!

Let’s pop champagne.
