A heavy load.

Too heavy to bear,

Our children will not spend part of their lives shedding tears because if any one of us.

I AM A PRISONER.

The above title came to my mind twice in the space of two days.

 

Yesterday,when I was in the midst a discussion with a colleague,I made mention of it.

 

Right now,while listening to a tract by Late Lucky Dube,he made mention of it.

 

No doubt about it, we are all trapped in this small space called  earth and it is quite funny that no one will leave it alive.

 

Is this not an entrapment?

 

The last few days have been filled with one of the realities of life.

 

People are dying on a daily basis and it is quite funny that death has no solution and no alternative.

 

There is an aberration I observed with humanity.

 

We live our lives as if to say we signed a contract of eternity on earth.

 

Some of us live our live as demigod relying on the transient position apportioned to us by mistake or by providence which will last for moments that we did not know.

 

“Some of us are foolish to the extent that

 

we demand respect from people instead

of working hard to earn it”.

However, I realized that death is an advantage and an addition to the existence of humanity.

 

If there is nothing like death,only God knows what would been the hope and the fate of those who are powerless and those who are less privilege.

 

“We are all prisoners”.

 

No one should behave as if he is free.

 

Death is your prison.

 

Put your ego and you pride down.

 

We are all going to die one day.

 

We are all in debt.

 

And it shall be paid by death.

What a double tragedy!

A Nigerian passenger, who was on his way out of the country, slumped and died at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Saturday.

The man, identified as Jude Oladapo, was said to have slumped while going through boarding procedures.

The spokesperson for the MMIA Police Command, Lagos, Mr Joseph Alabi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

 

According to him, the passenger was about boarding his flight when he received a call that his wife had passed on.

 

Alabi said the incident happened at about 5.30 pm and the deceased was confirmed dead at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport clinic.

The police spokesman said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the Air Force Hospital mortuary.

Justice Valentine Ashi of the FCT High Court died Thursday, Daily Trust learnt yesterday.
Justice Ashi was sitting in the Apo division of the FCT High Court before his demise.
A senior official of the court told our reporter that the judge died on Thursday but that the family wrote to the court yesterday to inform it of the judge’s death.

“We wanted to issue a formal statement to that effect but my Lord (the Chief Judge, Justice Ishaq Bello) has not given us the official clearance. We will do that by Monday. Thank you for reaching out”, the official said.

 

The official added that the judge died in an Abuja hospital after being admitted within a week for an ailment.
The judge in December 2018 ordered security agencies to arrest and produce the former Petroleum Resources Minister, Diezani Alison Madueke, within 72 hours.
His order had followed a December 8, 2018 ex-parte motion brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC said it investigated the former minister with a businessman and Chairman, Atlantic Energy Drilling Company, Jide Omokore, in relation to a petition by a group, the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), dated October 2, 2013, which contained allegations of money laundering and official corruption.

How scores of people were charred due to pipeline explosion in Nigeria.

Residents of Kom Kom in Oyigbo local Government Area of Rivers State where an oil pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) exploded on Saturday say over 100 people were burnt in the fire. Some of the bodies, they claimed, were burnt beyond recognition while scores of corpses were still in the bush where the explosion occurred.
Residents also raised an alarm over the humanitarian disaster due to the fast decomposing bodies, stench and pollution of the swamp and the environment. A visit to the area on Sunday showed that the number of human casualties grew because many of the villagers were in the swamp scooping petrol gushing out of the ruptured NNPC pipeline.

Also affected were a number of palm wine tappers and local brewers of Ethanol who were in the swamp. Villagers said over 100 people were trapped in the huge fire because there was a free-for-all scramble for leaking petrol by the villagers before the explosion.

A villager who gave his name as Ogechi Nnamdi said: “Nobody at the scene of the explosion survived. People were rushing to the leakage site to scoop free fuel, suddenly we heard an explosion. At least, I saw about 20 dead bodies. 11 had been carried away. And more are in the swamp yet to be recovered. And it is difficult getting inside the swamp now because we are in the rainy season”.

He called for the decontermination of the area by the government to avoid the spread of diseases. Some of the villagers were observed recovering the charred bodies from the swamp and burying them in mass graves.

Most of volunteers were not putting on medical gears to prevent infections from the fast decomposing bodies. There were no presence of emergency officials from the Oyigbo local government, state or the Federal government at the time of the visit.

Our correspondent was assaulted by the pungent smell of decomposing corpses oozing out from the environment.

Promise Chibuzo Nwankwo, the House Of Assembly member representing Oyigbo Local Government Area, expressed his condolences to the families of victims of the disaster. He also condemned the activities of oil thieves who caused the disaster.

According to the lawmaker, “In the early hours of Saturday, 22nd June 2019, around 8:25 am there was an incident of fire outbreak in Oyigbo Local Government Area. “The fire outbreak which occurred in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC) facility somewhere around Canaan Land Hospital, Izuoma Axis of Oyigbo local government area is as a result of oil bunkering.

“Until now the number of people injured are unconfirmed, but it is confirmed that scores of person’s were recorded dead.”

How PDP mourns.

Former deputy national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Babayo Gamawa, has passed away.

His spokesperson, Isa Gadau, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a telephone interview that Gamawa died on Friday night in Bauchi, after a brief illness.

“He complained of slight stomach ache and was taken to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he was admitted and later passed away.

“I am now heading to his house,” Gadau said.

It would be recalled that Senator Gamawa defected to the ruling APC prior to the 2019 general elections.

 

Born on Feb. 2, 1966, he attended the University of Jos, where he obtained a National Certificate in Purchasing and Supply.

He had served as the Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly and later Deputy Governor following the impeachment of the then Deputy Governor, late Alhaji Mohammed Gadi.

In 2011, he was elected Senator under the platform of the PDP in the 7th National Assembly; where he served as the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation and a member of the Land Transport Committee.

He is married with children. His burial arrangement is yet to be announced by his family.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged the European Union (EU) and other international communities to continue to monitor electoral process in Nigeria.

PDP’s deputy national chairman (South), Yemi Akinwonmi, made the call when he received a delegation of EU Elections Observation Mission at the party’s Presidential Campaign Office on Friday, June 14, in Abuja.

Maradona escaped death.

Emerging reports have indicated that the former Military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, is alive contrary to rumour about his death.

Vanguard reports that an online media had published that the former president passed on Friday, May 17, adding that it was gathered that Babangida is hail and hearty and still bubbling with life.

Legit.ng gathered that an impeccable source told Vanguard that General Babangida along with his children, close friends and associates broke fast together in his Hill top mansion Friday, May 17.

 

It is normal that during fasting like this, all the children of the former Military president normally come to Minna in and break fast with him.

”Not only that, Babangida normally break his fast with many of his friends and other relatives and he has been doing so since this year’s fasting started including yesterday and as you know, the dead cannot break fast with the living and that is to tell you that the man IBB is still alive and not dead and still bubbling with life,” the source declared.

According to the newspaper, as at the time of going to press, General Babangida is still said to be expecting some visitors which he is scheduled to meet around 10 pm.

31 Years old Nigerian died in Germany.

Police officers were “harassed and attacked” while trying to retrieve a body from the Regensburg asylum center on Saturday, German authorities said.

Emergency services were called after a 31-year-old Nigerian woman died in the building. The cause of death was unknown and a “topic of police investigation,” but there was no immediate indication of foul play.

When the police tried to take the body out of the building, some 40 to 50 residents engaged in a standoff with the officers, threatening them and then pelting them with glass bottles and stones.

 

“A part of the residents of the facility responded with increasing emotions to the presence to of the investigators,” police spokesman Dietmar Winterberg said. It was not immediately clear why the situation escalated, but police said one explanation was linked with the fact that the officers barred them entry to the area where the woman had died.

The standoff ended after some three hours, with strong police forces deploying to the Regensburg home. The authorities eventually managed to take the body out of the home. No injuries were reported.

 

The 31-year-old Nigerian left behind three children between the age of nine and three. The children would now enter the state child care system.

The Regensburg facility is one of several so-called Anker shelters across Germany which serve to house the asylum seekers until their status is resolved, and they are either relocated to local communities or deported.

The father of Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the Lagos State deputy governor-elect, Oba Olatunji Hamzat, is dead.
It was gathered that Oba Hamzat, a member of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress Governor’s Advisory Council, died on Sunday due to an old age-related ailment.
Oba Hamzat, the Olu of Afowora Sogade, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State Ogun State, was the leader of the APC caucus, Justice Forum.
Being a traditional ruler, his death has yet to be made official, but an aide of the deputy governor-elect, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Dr Hamzat will likely issue a statement of the demise of his father tomorrow (Monday).”

Four dead after Canada shootings, man in custody: police

Four people were shot dead in Penticton, British Colombia, on Monday (local time) and a suspect is in custody, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a statement.

“Police have determined four people are deceased at three locations within a 5 km (3.1 mile) radius,” the statement said.

“A man matching the suspect’s description turned himself into the Penticton RCMP detachment. The man remains in custody while the investigation progresses. Preliminary indications are this was a targeted incident,” the statement said.

The initial shooting incident was reported at 10:30 a.m. local time (1730 GMT). As police were en route to the scene, a second shooting was reported.

The suspect in both shootings turned himself in about an hour after the first report, police said.

 

A motive for the shootings was still unknown.

“Determining why this occurred is part of our ongoing investigation,” said RCMP regional commander Ted De Jager.

“I understand that this is a deeply troubling incident that has taken place in our community. Our hearts and thoughts are with all those impacted by this terribly tragic incident,” he added.

As death bring about loss, pains and agony, it is a stage or a phase that send a message to all human that there is always a time when all of us will leave behind whatever we think we have achieved.

 

Death is the stage whereby life becomes meaningless but the only thing that always remain after death is the stories of the good or the bad we have done in the process of our existence on earth.

While we are born to be alive till the last phase, we all should remember that no one can escape this phase and this put a responsibility on us to live a life of responsibility, responses and impact so that when the final curtain is drawn, we will be able to have affected life’s around us.
